Sonora-area California Highway Patrol Officer Ryan Ripley stepped down into the Guzzi Lane crosswalk intersecting with Greenley Road just south of Adventist Health Sonora, his eyes averted to an oncoming red Dodge pickup hurtling northbound up the street.

Well aware of the danger, Ripley froze 5 feet from the truck’s oncoming path.

The driver was either unaware or indifferent to the “decoy pedestrian” and zoomed through the crosswalk without stopping.

CHP Public Information Officer Faustino Pulido relayed the car’s details to two waiting law enforcement vehicle units, unseen on the other side of the crest of Greenley Road, and looked to the ground, shaking his head.

“He didn’t even slow down.”
