On the Road: Changing lanes in an intersection may be legal — but it’s not necessarily safe

Q. Reader Jacqui Canfield asked On the Road three different questions: Is it legal to change lanes in the middle of an intersection? Can you get a ticket for driving the speed limit in the fast lane, when other cars are going around you faster than the posted speed limit? Is it legal to have your pet on your lap while driving?

A. We’ll tackle one question at a time.

While most people believe it’s illegal to change lanes in an intersection, nothing in the California Vehicle Code that says you can’t – so, it’s legal to do so as long as it’s done safely.
