Steve Miller, President/Founder of GetDismissed.com, featured on AM 1170 The Answer on The Andrea Kaye Show – January 11, 2018 - All California drivers can upgrade their driver’s licenses to the new REAL ID driver’s license, beginning January 22, 2018. The new ID card was mandated as part of the REAL ID Act of 2005 and passed in response to 9/11 that created new security standards for states driver’s licenses and IDs.

The Newly designed California driver licenses will feature a gold miner image on the right side of the card and California poppies on the bottom left. Under ultraviolet light, you can see an image of the cardholder’s photo, birth date, Golden Gate Bridge and Coit Tower.

All California driver licenses, including Real ID driver licenses, cost $35 and ID cards cost $30. The sooner you get the ID the better you will be. As the enforcement date of October 1st, 2020 approaches a bottleneck of applicants can be expected. As Steve Miller mentions on this interview, the uncertainty and lack of knowledge surrounding this issue will create headaches while boarding flights across states.
